If you’re nearing the end of your third trimester, it’s good to start putting together a bag to take to the hospital. I recommend having it ready around 36-37 weeks.
The Essentials:
- Insurance card and ID, cash/credit card
- Cell phones and chargers
- Water bottle (especially for your partner- patients should get a big jug for water)
- Toiletries
- Slip-on shoes for both of you for when you’re walking around (the hospital will also have grippy socks for you to wear if that’s preferred)
- Comfortable clothes to wear after delivery and a going home outfit for you.
- Going home outfit for baby! Diaper bag, blanket, etc
- Car seat (make sure it’s already installed. Your local fire dept or police station can often help with this if needed)
Nice to have:
- Nursing bra or tank tops
- Your own pillow
- Portable speaker
- Personal fan
- Headphones
- Snacks/drinks/gum
- Your own breast pump (the hospital has a pump in every room, but you can bring yours too if you prefer or need any help with it)
- Boppy/nursing pillow
- Baby book for handprints/footprints
- Roku/Amazon fire stick or laptop if you want to be able to stream your favorite shows
Other important notes
- Have your baby’s pediatrician/clinic picked out.
- The hospitals will have onesies, hats, sleep sacks, diapers, wipes, etc. for baby. You’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
- The hospitals will have postpartum supplies for you (underwear, pads, peri bottle, etc)-You’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
- Both St. John’s and Woodwinds have a mini refrigerator in each room for any food or drinks you want to bring!
